Most companies take popcorn ceilings down by soaking them and scraping the wet texture onto the floor, which works, but it turns the room into a swamp and the cleanup into its own project. Before the machine touches anything, we test older texture for asbestos if the house dates from before the late 1980s, then seal the room, film the floors and wrap the furniture. Once the texture is off, the drywall underneath almost always needs work: gouges filled, screw pops re-secured, seams checked.
